Archive of previous monthly messages from chapter president

For April's meeting at the 7 Seas Taproom and Brewing Company, I am registered. Are you? The last Wednesday of the month was not available, so we'll be meeting on April 27th, the last Monday of the month, plenty of time for you to register. If you have any emerging professionals in your firm who would like to do a five to ten minute presentation on one of their projects, please contact JR Mill at jr@tcfarchitecture.com to participate in our next meeting.

The chapter must hold elections this month, and our secretary Leo Emerson has been busy putting the ballot together. As soon as it ready, we'll distribute it to membership. We will announce the new Board members at our Awards ceremony in June.

Since we had to cancel our meeting last month, we're re-inviting Dan Quatier to speak to our chapter in May. You don't want to miss it. Dan is a fountain of knowledge on opening protectives, active in code forming committees on the subject. We're planning his presentation for the last Wednesday in May, the 27th. Stay tuned for registration and more info as we close in on the date.

If you're on LinkedIn, visit our page there for updates and follow us if you don't already.

August is here, and we’ve already hit our first snag, but we were able to get loose from it and reschedule our first meeting for September at the Roy Murphy Center.  Watch this website’s calendar for the revised date. We figured we’d give everyone a week to settle down after the last party weekend of the summer.

As you’re gearing up for Labor Day, please think about joining us at our September meeting for a guided tour through the Mercy Aviva Crossing housing development. Following the tour a team from Walsh construction will give a presentation on the planning and construction of this affordable housing community in West Tacoma.

We need volunteers! We want to staff a nominating committee with members who are interested in identifying the future leadership of our chapter. Getting involved in a committee is one way to get the most out of being a member. I can tell you from experience that the rewards are mostly unanticipated. You never know what the result of associating with someone to achieve a goal will be. Think of the work relationships you’ve probably developed over the course of your career. They didn’t happen overnight. They grew through interaction and mutual accomplishments.

Building product manufacturers who would like to sponsor a meeting should contact either JR Mill or Joan Schaefer, our chapter Directors. JR oversees our Program Committee and Joan handles most of our catering and makes meeting reservations at the Roy Murphy Center and elsewhere on occasion. Sponsors are given time at the beginning of our meetings to introduce themselves and present their products, along with a tabletop for samples and brochures.

In September, we’ll be opening our Board meetings to all members. All chapter members will be notified when they will occur and be sent an agenda for their review prior to the meeting. We invite comments and additions to the agenda time permitting. If you know anyone curious about CSI, bring them along!

July marks the beginning of a new year for the CSI Mt. Rainier chapter. I hope that you are all having a splendid summer. The beginning of my summer marked the beginning of a new era in my personal life. Lisa and I got married in May so you will probably be seeing her occasionally at upcoming meetings.

J.R. Mills has taken over programming for the chapter, and the committee has begun scheduling excellent programs for your continuing education. We will be completing the schedule of programs over the summer, so if you have any ideas about programs you want to see, please share them with J.R.

Leo Emerson has graciously volunteered to take over the recently vacated Secretary position on the Board. Thank you, Leo! If any of you want to run for Secretary in our next election, please let us know and we will add you to the ballot.

David Hoel will be continuing as chapter Treasurer, and we are also grateful for his efforts to sharpen our website and bring us all into the 21st century (and teach us how to use BillHighway).

One of my first tasks as your new president is to identify my replacement. We need to identify a President Elect to keep this chapter alive. I am going to form a Nomination Committee to help with this task. Anyone interested in participating in this process can join the committee.

I am opening our Board meetings to all members. We will notify all members when they occur and send an agenda for their review prior to the meeting. We invite comments and additions to the agenda time permitting. Only Board members are eligible to vote on motions and chapter business. If you know anyone curious about CSI, bring them too! The more the merrier!
